Randori, or Free Sparing, is an essential part of Judo training. It is an activity that can be done at all levels of experience as long as it is done with wisdom and control. Judo is a controlled exercise, and with that, here is a list of the rules that Red River Judo implements to give our members a safe, and effective, training environment.

Senior Judo

Senior Judo players are governed by the following rules.

  1. Judo players with no previous grappling experience will wait until they are a Yellow Belt before they are allowed to do Hard Randori.
  2. Judo players with previous grappling experience may be invited to participate in randori prior to earning their yellow belt.
  3. The technique Kani Basami is banned from live randori at all skill levels
  4. A high-angle Ura Nage is banned during Randori
  5. The technique Tani Otoshi is limited to Advanced Ranks during Randori
