Hiza Guruma (膝車), also known as the "Knee Wheel," is a classic judo throw categorized under Ashi-Waza (foot/leg techniques).
Steps to Perform Hiza Guruma
- Grip and Stance: Start with a standard grip on your opponent's collar and sleeve. Ensure you have a stable stance.
- Off-Balancing (Kuzushi): Pull your opponent forward and slightly to the side to break their balance. This is crucial for setting up the throw.
- Positioning: Step to the side of your opponent, opening your hips. Your foot should be placed in front of your opponent's knee.
- Execution (Tsukuri): Extend your leg and brace it against your opponent's knee. Keep your leg straight and use it as a pivot point.
- Throw (Kake): Turn your foot to face your opponent and pull them across your body with your shoulders and arms. This motion will cause your opponent to pivot over your braced leg and fall to the ground.
Hiza Guruma is effective because it uses the opponent's momentum and balance against them, making it a powerful technique when executed correctly.
