Harai Tsurikomi Ashi (払釣込足) is one of the original 40 throws of Judo as developed by Jigoro Kano. It belongs to the third group, Sankyo, of the traditional throwing list, Gokyo (no waza), of Kodokan Judo. It is also part of the current 67 Throws of Kodokan Judo. It is classified as a foot technique, Ashi-waza.
Concept
Harai Tsurikomi Ashi involves using a sweeping motion combined with lifting and pulling to off-balance and throw the opponent. The tori (the person executing the throw) uses their leg to sweep the uke's (the person being thrown) leg while simultaneously lifting and pulling with the hands.
Technique
- Grip: The tori grips the uke's sleeve and collar.
- Positioning: The tori steps to the side, pulling the uke forward and off-balance.
- Sweeping and Lifting: The tori sweeps the uke's leg with their own leg while lifting with the hands.
- Throwing: The tori continues the sweeping and lifting motion to throw the uke.
Key Points
- Break the uke's balance forward or to the side.
- Coordinate the sweeping motion with the lifting and pulling action.
- Ensure the sweeping leg is positioned correctly to maximize leverage.
