Kuzure Kami Shiho Gatame' (崩上四方固), also known as the "Modified Upper Four Corner Hold" or "Broken Upper Four Corner Hold," is one of the seven mat holds (Osaekomi-waza) of Kodokan Judo. In grappling terms, it is categorized as a north-south hold.
Technique Description
Kuzure Kami Shiho Gatame involves controlling the opponent from a north-south position. The practitioner (tori) positions themselves above the opponent (uke), pinning them to the mat by gripping the back of their collar and belt. A key variation from the standard Kami Shiho Gatame is the placement of one of the tori's hands over the uke's arm, providing additional control and leverage.
Applications
This technique is commonly used in both competitive Judo and self-defense scenarios. It can be transitioned into from various throws and is effective in maintaining control over the opponent while setting up for submissions.
