Kodomo-No-Kata - Unit 7

The 7th unit within the Kodomo No Kata demonstrates that a student understands the very basics of Judo, including introductory movements and breakfalls

  1. Ritsu-rei and Za-rei
    1. A standing bow, facing Shomen
    2. A kneeling bow with Uke and Tori facing each other.
  2. Ushiro-ukemi
    1. Both Students lay on their back, tuck their chins, and then slap the mat, while tucking their chin, 2 times.
    2. Both students then sit up, with their legs and arms extended and then do a break fall back, with their feet pointing straight up. This is done twice.
  3. Yoko-ukemi
    1. Both Students then lay on their back, with their feet and hands pointed straight up, they will then do a breakfall to the right and left side.
    2. Students will then transition onto their hands and knees.
  4. Outen-ukemi
    1. Students do a side role into a break fall.
    2. This is done twice on the right side and the left side.
  5. Tai-sabaki
    1. Mae-Sabaki
    2. Ushiro-Sabaki
  6. Ayumi-ashi
    1. Moving Forward and Backward
  7. Tsugi-ashi
    1. Uki and Tori take sleave grips
    2. Movement is done side to side, moving toward Shomen first.
  8. Throwing by Mae-sabaki
    1. Uke drops to knees,
    2. Tori takes a Basic Kumi-Kata
    3. Tori executes a Mae-Sabaki movement and Uke takes a side fall
    4. Executed on Right and Left Side
  9. Throwing by Ushiro-sabaki
    1. Uke moves to a position with the right knee up and offers the right arm
    2. Tori takes the arm in both hands and executes an Ushiro Sabaki throwing the Uke with both hands.
    3. Executed on the Right and Left Side
  10. Za-rei and Ritsu-rei
    1. A kneeling bow with Uke and Tori facing each other.
    2. A standing bow, facing Shomen
