Uki Gatame (浮固, Floating Hold) is a Judo technique categorized under Katame-Waza (grappling techniques) and more specifically under Osaekomi-waza (holding techniques). It is one of the techniques recognized by the Kodokan.
Technique Description
Uki Gatame involves pinning the opponent to the mat by applying pressure with the knee on the opponent's torso. The practitioner positions themselves with one knee on the opponent's chest or abdomen, while the other leg is extended for balance. The practitioner's hands are used to control the opponent's upper body.
Steps to Execute Uki Gatame
- From a side control position, the practitioner places one knee on the opponent's chest or abdomen.
- The practitioner's other leg is extended to the side for balance.
- The practitioner's hands control the opponent's upper body, typically by gripping the opponent's belt or gi.
- The practitioner applies downward pressure with the knee to immobilize the opponent.
