Tsukkomi Jime (突込絞, Thrust Choke) is a Judo technique categorized under Katame-waza (grappling techniques) and more specifically under Shime-waza (strangulation techniques). It is one of the twelve constriction techniques recognized by the Kodokan.
Technique Description
Tsukkomi Jime involves using the practitioner's hand to grip the opponent's collar and thrust the edge of the hand against the opponent's neck to apply a choke. This technique can be performed from various positions, including standing or on the ground.
Steps to Execute Tsukkomi Jime
- Grip the opponent's collar with one hand, ensuring a firm hold.
- Thrust the edge of the hand against the side of the opponent's neck.
- Use the other hand to control the opponent's body or to assist in applying additional pressure.
- Apply the choke by pulling the collar and pressing the edge of the hand into the opponent's neck.
Variations
There are several variations of Tsukkomi Jime, including:
- Standing Tsukkomi Jime - performed from a standing position, often as a counter to an opponent's attack.
- Ground Tsukkomi Jime - executed from various ground positions, such as side control or mount.
Counters
To escape from Tsukkomi Jime, the opponent can:
- Break the grip on the collar to disrupt the choke.
- Rotate their body to change the angle and reduce the effectiveness of the choke.
