Hane Makikomi (跳巻込), or "Springing Wraparound Throw," is one of the original 40 throws of Judo developed by Jigoro Kano. It belongs to the fourth group, Yonkyo, of the traditional throwing list, Gokyo (no waza), of Kodokan Judo. It is classified as a side sacrifice technique (Yoko-Sutemi-Waza).

Concept

Hane Makikomi involves the tori (the person executing the throw) using a wrapping motion to throw the uke (the person being thrown) while sacrificing their own balance. This technique is often used when an initial Hane Goshi (Hip Spring) attempt fails to turn the uke adequately.

Technique

  1. Grip: The tori grips the uke's sleeve and collar.
  2. Positioning: The tori attempts a Hane Goshi but transitions to Hane Makikomi when the initial throw fails.
  3. Wrapping and Dropping: The tori releases the grip on the uke's collar, wraps their arm around the uke's body, and drops to the side.
  4. Throwing: The tori uses the wrapping motion and body drop to throw the uke in a spiral-like motion.

Key Points

  • Transition smoothly from Hane Goshi to Hane Makikomi.
  • Ensure the wrapping motion is tight and controlled.
  • Coordinate the dropping motion with the wrapping action to maximize leverage.
